CONCACAF has announced results from the Official Draw for the 2012 CONCACAF Futsal Championship in Ciudad Guatemala. The eight-team tournament will invite either Canada or El Salvador into Group A, with Panama, USA and host Guatemala already qualified for the CONCACAF championship. Canada needs to defeat El Salvador to qualify for the CONCACAF championship.
The Canada-El Salvador two-leg playoff series will be played 28-29 June, also in Ciudad Guatemela. The winner of the series will stay in Guatemala for the championship while the eliminated team will return home.
The 2012 CONCACAF Futsal Championship runs 2-8 July 2012 at the Domo Polideportivo in Ciudad Guatemala, Guatemala. It marks the third time that the CONCACAF finals will be staged in the Central American country. Four teams from CONCACAF will qualify for the FIFA Futsal World Cup Thailand 2012, which runs 2-18 November.
Opposite Group A, Cuba, Mexico, Costa Rica and St. Kitts and Nevis will compete in Group B.
CONCACAF has staged four previous futsal qualifying competitions for FIFA tournaments. The USA was crowned confederation champion twice (1996, 2004), while Costa Rica (2000) and Guatemala (2008) won single titles. Cuba has finished as runner-up on each occasion.
